Cabinet Alignment 101: Adjusting Soft-Close Hinges & Lift Mechanisms

You’ve assembled your modular kitchen or wardrobe cabinets, but the doors are crooked, have uneven gaps, or touch each other. Don't worry! Modern premium cabinetry hinges (like Blum, Hettich, or Kaboodle hinges) contain three-dimensional adjustment screws that allow you to align doors perfectly.

Here is our quick installer guide to leveling cabinetry doors.

1. Left & Right Adjustments (Lateral) The front-most screw on the hinge arm controls lateral alignment. Turning it clockwise shifts the door edge closer to the adjacent cabinet side, centering overlapping doors.

2. Up & Down Adjustments (Vertical) Modern hinge plates have top and bottom screws that attach the plate to the cabinet. Loosening these screws allows you to slide the door vertically to match neighboring cabinet height, then lock it tight.

3. In & Out Adjustments (Depth) The rear-most screw adjusts the depth gap between the door and the cabinet face. If your soft-close mechanism isn't catching, or if the door slams, adjusting this screw ensures a perfectly quiet close.
