How to Fix Stripped Hinge Plate Screws in MDF Cabinets

MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is standard in modern cabinetry, but it can crumble if screws are over-tightened or subjected to heavy force, stripping the hinge plate holes. To repair a stripped screw hole, remove the hinge and clean out the wood fibers. Insert a wooden dowel coated in wood glue or fill the hole with a high-strength epoxy wood filler.

Once cured, sand the surface flat and pre-drill a pilot hole before re-attaching the hinge plate. Avoid using oversized screws directly into damaged MDF as this can split the board and ruin the cabinet side panel.
