Project Location & Details
Located in Papatoetoe, South Auckland, this residential project was completed in May 2025. The floating media console and open shelving components were supplied by Cabinet Warehouse and fitted on-site with bespoke leveling and trim adjustments by the trade team at Cabinet Installers.
Customer Requirements
The customer requested a high-end Custom TV Unit Auckland for their living room in South Auckland. Their key requirements included:
• A floating media cabinet format to keep the floor area clear and modern.
• Hidden cable management conduits to conceal all TV, console, and speaker wires.
• Integration of multiple visual elements: vertical wooden slats, a polished marble-look backing panel, and floating shelving.
• Solid wall anchoring capable of supporting a 75-inch TV and heavy cabinetry.
Scope of Work
The comprehensive scope of work completed by our crew on this project includes:
• Custom assembly and structural mounting of the lower Floating TV Cabinet Auckland console.
• Positioning and mounting of the central TV Feature Wall Auckland mounting panel.
• Fitting and leveling the vertical open display shelving units on the left flank.
• Installing the decorative timber slat wall panels on the right side.
• Mounting the high-gloss PVC marble-look feature panel in the center.
• Providing concealed cable management channels behind the paneling to hide all cords.
• Laying routing portals for future integrated LED strip lighting.
• Scribing panels to the walls and adjusting soft-close hinges for clean door gaps.
Materials Used
Premium materials were chosen to combine structural longevity with high-end interior aesthetics:
• 18mm Pre-Laminated MDF for high-capacity open shelving units.
• 16mm Pre-Laminated MDF for lower cabinet door fronts.
• Soft-close overlay cup hinges and magnetic touch latches.
• PVC Marble Feature Panel (high-gloss waterproof backing).
• Decorative Slat Wall Panels with pre-finished timber woodgrain finishes.
Installation Challenges
The installation required resolving several complex site challenges:
1. Accurate TV Feature Panel Positioning: Aligning the heavy central PVC marble panel exactly centered to the seating area while maintaining solid structural anchoring to studs.
2. Cable Management Provisions: Routing internal wiring portals between the floating console and the wall-mounted TV so that cords remain hidden but easily retrievable.
3. Existing Wall Services Integration: Adapting the back panels to fit around existing power sockets and TV antenna ports without blocking maintenance access.
4. Anti-Theft Sensor Relocation: Shifting the homeowner's security sensor panel from the center of the wall and embedding it cleanly into the new decorative slat wall structure.
5. Alignment of Materials: Coordinating the seams between the MDF shelves, the central marble-look panel, and the timber slat wall with zero tolerance.
6. Clean Floating Cabinet Appearance: Utilizing heavy-duty internal steel brackets to secure the large console unit without any visible floor supports.
Solution & Engineering
To address the out-of-plumb plasterboard wall and ensure a flush fit, our installers precision-scribed the side filler panels of the console directly to the wall's wavy contour. The security sensor was relocated and embedded seamlessly within the timber slat wall, retaining full wiring functionality. Steel-reinforced bracing was added to the mounting brackets to ensure the console could support over 80kg without any sagging or structural risk.
Installation Process & Carcass Stage
The project began with structural mapping of the plasterboard partition wall. The lower Floating TV Cabinet Auckland carcass was mounted on the wall studs and held on temporary supports to map the exact leveling datum. Green-beam cross-line lasers were utilized to verify level lines across the entire 2.4m span, guaranteeing a flat foundation for the vertical elements above.
Once the carcass was anchored, wiring channels were laid. The decorative paneling was then applied section by section, ensuring exact alignment and clean visual tolerances.
Completion Outcome
The completed installation is a striking, showroom-standard Custom TV Unit Auckland. The lower floating cabinet console is fitted with flush-mounted white doors, the central TV is mounted over the polished marble-look PVC panel, and the right-hand timber slat wall provides beautiful vertical lines that contrast with the clean white surfaces.
The client was extremely satisfied with the level, clean margins and the complete deflection-free rigidity of the floating cabinet console.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an entertainment wall cost in Auckland?
The cost of a custom Entertainment Wall Auckland project varies depending on the overall width, materials used (such as pre-laminated MDF cabinetry, wooden slat panels, and PVC marble sheets), and prep work. Simple floating TV units start around $1,500, while full-scale, multi-material feature walls range from $4,000 to $10,000+. Contact us for an accurate estimate.
Can floating TV cabinets support large televisions?
Yes. When we perform a professional Floating TV Cabinet Auckland installation, we secure heavy-duty steel mounting brackets directly into the timber studs of your wall. This ensures the console can safely support heavy televisions, sound systems, and storage items without structural deflection.
Can LED lighting be added to an entertainment wall later?
Absolutely. During construction, our installers route hidden wiring channels and access ports behind the PVC marble panels and cabinetry. This provides a future-ready pathway to run LED tape lights around the borders later without opening up the walls.
What materials are commonly used for entertainment walls?
We recommend using 16mm and 18mm pre-laminated MDF for durable shelves and doors, along with specialty decorative panels like vertical timber slat boards, high-gloss PVC marble-look panels, and soft-closing hinges for a premium architectural finish.
Can entertainment walls include hidden cable management?
Yes. Cable management is a core part of our Custom TV Unit Auckland service. We cut precise hidden pass-throughs in the cabinetry and feature backings so all power cords, HDMI lines, and AV console wires remain completely out of sight.
Do you install custom entertainment walls throughout Auckland?
Yes! The qualified crew at Cabinet Installers provides professional installation for custom entertainment units, flatpacks, and joinery systems throughout Greater Auckland, including the North Shore, West Auckland, and South Auckland suburbs.
